About Frigidaire

The Frigidaire company makes various consumer and commercial appliances. It was founded as the Guardian Frigerator Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1916. It produced the first self-contained refrigerator. The brand became so well known in the refrigeration field that during the early 20th century many people in North America called any fridge a Frigidaire.

Between 1919 and 1979 the company was owned by General Motors. In 1979 Frigidaire was sold to White Consolidated Industries, which was purchased by Electrolux in 1986.
